The Kitchen Witches
Written by: Caroline Smith
Directed by: Michael Masterson
City Theatre of Independence will be holding auditions for “The Kitchen Witches” on Monday, April 9 and Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at the Roger T. Sermon Center; at the corner of Truman and Noland Roads in Independence, MO. We will meet from 6:30pm to 9:00pm.
Actors are requested to bring a picture (it does not have to be a headshot) and a resume. They will also fill out a City Theatre audition form.
Auditions will be cold readings from the script; no memorized monologues are required. But there will be NO CALLBACKS; casting will be done from the two days of auditions.
Isobel Lomas and Dolly Biddle are two ‘mature’ cable-access cooking show hostesses who have hated each other for 30 years, ever since Larry Biddle dated one and married the other. Circumstances throw them together on a TV show called “The Kitchen Witches,” and the insults are flung harder than the food!
Dolly Biddle – A 50ish cherub of a woman, prone to overweight but always going at top speed. Intensely proud of her son, Stephen. And hates Isobel Lomax with an intensity usually reserved for detonating nuclear devices.
Stephen Biddle – A nervous, prematurely balding, but decent young man. 30ish, bright and capable, if somewhat shy. A lover, not a fighter, but nobody’s asked him yet.
Isobel Lomax – Thinks Martha Stewart could learn something from her. Trained at the Cordon Bleu. Likes to think she has a much classier background than reality supports. A bright, funny and articulate woman.
Rob the Camera Guy (or Chick) – Can be played by an ASM or an AD. Tends to dress in somewhat ‘Goth” fashion. He/she cleans up the sets, resets props, carries the portable camera around during the show and is generally extremely efficient. Has only one line in the show.
The production runs May 31, June 1, 2, 8, and 9 at 7:30pm; and June 10 at 2:00pm.
