Following our final production, we will strike the show. **All actors and production team are required to participate in the set build and strike.** SYNOPSIS Television star Andrew Rally has just moved to New York to try his hand at live theatre in a production of “Hamlet”. When he begins to doubt himself and becomes increasingly concerned about his career, he is visited by the ghost of the legendary actor, John Barrymore. Barrymore explains that all actors who take on the role of Hamlet are visited and mentored by their predecessors, and he cannot leave until Andrew takes the stage as Hamlet. Andrew’s girlfriend wants him to play a romantic hero, his friend wants him to accept a lucrative TV gig, and Barrymore wants him to take on the role of Hamlet. As Andrew grows under Barrymore’s direction, he is forced to confront the ultimate question: who he wants to be, or not to be. CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS Andrew Rally A young, popular actor who studied drama in New York but found stardom in Hollywood playing a young surgeon on a soap opera. He has reluctantly accepted the role of Hamlet in NYC’s Shakespeare in the Park. He is uncertain of his abilities of performing live. Gender: Male John Barrymore While a heavy drinker and a lady’s man, John was also a legendary actor in the early-to-mid 20th century best known for his title role in “Hamlet.” He appears as a ghost to help Andrew in the nuances of acting and love and cannot leave until Andrew has tackled the role. Gender: Male Deidre McDavey Attractive and emotional, Diedre is Andrew’s long-term girlfriend who refuses to sleep with him until she knows he is “the one.” She’s a valley girl who imagines herself as a Brontee heroine. She is desperate to play Ophelia but ends up being cast as one of Ophelia’s handmaids. Gender: Female Lillian Troy Andrew’s talent agent. She is older, wiser, and a chronic smoker. She claims to have had an affair with Barrymore in Andrew’s new NYC apartment. She can surprisingly see Barrymore’s ghost and is able to remind him of their time together and rekindle their romance. Gender: Female Felicia Dantine Andrew’s real estate agent. She’s a student of spiritualism and a talented medium. Gender: Female, Any Gary Peter Lefkowitz Cocky and pompous, he is the ultimate stereotype of the superficial Hollywood producer. For him, it’s all about money. He gave Andrew his first big break and is now offering Andrew a chance to star in a new TV series and can’t understand why he isn’t jumping at the opportunity. Gender: Male, Any
